Counter, NYC!

Well this past weekend was crazy fun in NYC but I really wanted to share with you my absolute new favorite brunch spot in the city. Counter (serves vegan and non-vegan fare, plus has an organic martini bar, wine and beer) and is the best food I really have had in a long time that early in the morning. (Well, 1 p.m. but besides the point ;)

First, I got a pitcher of organic sangria (had to start the day off right and there were two of us!)

On to the food: I got the Frittata Alla Fiorentina (which was actually 2 tofu frittatas) on whole wheat english muffins with spinach and vegan hollandaise sauce (swoon). Also a mesculan green salad and amazing spiced home fries. They also brought out homemade ketchup, vegan mayo and played Dylan on the cd player the whole time. It was heaven.

And if I needed more food, I could NOT resist a vegan maple pecan chocolate hot fudge sundae in a pastry crust. (All desserts are vegan!) I may need to move to NYC for this meal alone!
The picture above is at dinner the night before at a wonderful dark veg-friendly place called Corner Cafe. (Sorry, my wine haze prevented me from remembering to take food shots for you guys here, but the appetizer of fried artichokes with sea salt and lemon were off the hook! Dinner was a Thai inspired noodle dish with grilled teriyaki veggie skewers, and for someone who rarely gets dessert, I got the vegan raspberry sorbet which was so creamy and delish) In the black shirt is a friend from college and in the white a friend from home. The weekend was filled with a couple concerts, lots of food, and many, many bars (including the original Coyote Ugly which I proceeded to become an honorary Coyote by dancing on the bar late Sunday afternoon.) Great times :)

You know what is really awesome about your brunch description? The part where you order dessert after "breakfast." I know it was 1 pm, but still. Love it!

The hollandaise sauce is something I still need to experience... I am quite intrigued by this swoon-worthy phenomenon!

Thanks again for your nice comment on my blog! Just in case you missed my answer to your frozen vegan cheese question...

Whenever I buy a block of Vegan Gourmet, I shred the whole thing in the food processor and freeze it. I don't notice any difference in texture, maybe it's because it's shredded. Oh, and I just stab it with a knife to break it apart when it's frozen... you know, psycho style! :P
