My Hard Drive Crashed...It's True :(

So, my computer went bizerk about 2 weeks ago. I brought it to my local Apple store to get fixed, wanted to pay to get all my things saved regardless...one week later I got the news. Nothing could be saved, I either get a new hard drive or a new computer. My hard drive was beat, crashed, nothing was able to be saved, nothing that they could do. It was about the same cost, but since I still had a warranty on this fabulous though now not my favorite Macbook, I opted for the new hard drive. But, I lost everything.

This is not a pity party but as my computer friends, I must tell you.

Over 10,000 songs on my Itunes (and I have a blank Ipod due to a umm random night with a friend and wine, no help from that) But my epic music collection will need to be restored after many many hours of downloads.

Every photo I had on here, professional and all my "for fun outings" pics since 2005, which also included a lot of traveling and not to mention modeling photos with photographers I am not sure I can get again.

Every written saved piece I had from my senior year of college, which means all my final business projects and my thesis from Dublin (about the evils of Walmart)

Plus, a bunch of recipes, which tear, I will have to try to remember again for you guys... and myself...Hmm, the wild rice stuffing to name one.

Ok enough sadness, I have my laptop back and "new" and running. I have had to try to keep up with comments through my parents Mac and their PC, which just was not the same, but why I have been so MIA...Yes, I learned, I will be backing everything up from now on. Take note bloggies! Happy Thursday :)

Oh, no!!!! I'm so sorry this has happened to you. I'll learn from your mistake and get myself a backup drive asap.

This sort of happened to me earlier this year. My laptop was acting all wonky, and it is like 6 years old, so I figured it was on its way out. I uploaded all my photos to flickr, uploaded all my recipes to a blog, and put most of my files on a flash drive. Then it died. I lost some important stuff, but not nearly as much as I would have. I am just grateful for the early-warning-signs...

Oohhh so sorry about your puter. It's a hard lesson to learn, but you know what they say, back up, back up, back up...guess you'll be doin' that now. Maybe by chance you have some cds layin' around with back up pix and documents. Enjoy your weekend.

You are not alone, VV. I've spoken with a number of people who have lost a lot of cool/important stuff with a hard-drive crash. Sorry it happened to you! Big ouch! Speaking of "Lost," that's the name of one of my favorite soul songs, by Jerry Butler. Oh, and there's a pretty amazingl TV show by that name too!

This same thing happened to me earlier this year. I lost pretty much all the same stuff you did (except for the modeling photos lol). I had to fight back tears it was so devastating. I now have a backup drive and am obsessive about backing things up. You're not alone.

As ! was munching on my organic preserves and almond butter this morning, it was inspiring to read your last couple blogs. Great looks Thanksgiving(!) and sorry about the computer. BUMMER! But we certainly have lots to be thankful for.

OMG that f*ing sucks!!! My hard drive crashed about a year ago, and it's sitting on Jesse's computer desk waiting to have my 2 years of photos retrieved whenever he "gets around to it." I just got a thumb drive, but haven't gotten into the habit of using it yet - thanks for the reminder! xoxo

That's pants about the computer... I'm very sorry to hear that.

I frequently contemplate a backup drive, but never actually do it until it's too late.

Great blog, BTW. I've added you to my blogroll.

Yes, yes, yes! How I can relate! How it SUCKS BIG TIME!! This happened to me too! Right before Christmas!! And I had... (of course I know all the rules about backing things up!!) 5 YEARS of pictures... 5 YEARS of my kids and cooking and memories and vacations and... yeah WOW...
But we move on. {{sigh}} I'm still in mourning, just a little though.

I'm really sorry for you. That sucks.

I hope you remember all the recipes and your music downloading fest isn't pure torture.

It's okay! Everything will be just fine. You have a new added person following you (ME) so anything you put out there will be new to me! Many blessings to you this 2009!
